I’m Alan Cruz, a first-generation, queer advocate, content creator, and entrepreneur who has had the privilege of sharing my story at events like Point Foundation’s National Gala, co-hosting a fundraising showcase for Leader in Training that raised $10,000, and organizing a three-day summit for America’s Promise Alliance at Facebook HQ with over 300 attendees. I’ve also presented interactive activist workshops alongside AFSCME and NextGen America, and delivered a TEDx talk on the power of youth mobilization.

I sat down with We Are Mentally United to share my journey—one shaped by resilience, reinvention, and storytelling. From growing up with Marfan syndrome and undergoing multiple surgeries to working in Congress and realizing politics wasn’t my path, I talk about the pivotal moments that led me to launch Poderoso Media and Gen Z Acts. I also open up about my 2024 retinal detachment surgeries and how they gave me even more clarity on what truly matters. Now, I’m focused on using content marketing and storytelling to help mission-driven brands, nonprofits, and social enterprises amplify their impact.
